Phase retains world class estimators and professional Quantity Surveyors (PQS) experienced in delivering major capital cost estimates for some of the most prominent mine and mineral processing facilities of the last 45 years.

We can provide: Expert estimators and quantity surveyors available on an ad-hoc or full-time basis, engaged remotely or with an on-site presence.

ESTIMATING

First principles estimating of all classes of estimates in accordance with industry standards.

  • Material Take-off (Mto) And Bill of Quantity (Boq) Development by Skilled Qs’s

  • Conduct Independent Benchmarking and Modelling (e.g. Contingency, Escalation)

  • Conduct Third Party Estimate Review and Validation

  • Establish Estimating Standards and Tools for the Company or Customised to an Operating Asset

Phase personnel are currently integrated into owner’s teams on four continents, developing estimates and leading the project cost control functions for major mining projects in both the planning and implementation phases. This gives us cutting edge insights into market trends and access to the most current pricing for the key commodities and preponderant cost elements of Class 2 estimates.

Our involvement in project cost management from cradle to grave gives an advantage over pure estimating firms who rarely get to track their performance by monitoring the estimate baseline through to a final as-built cost report.

ALFRED SPATH

Chief Estimator

Alfred has 45 years of industry experience and is an industry per of the highest calibre. Alfred has prepared cost estimates for some of the industry’s largest copper milling/concentrator projects, including Newmont’s $3.1 billion Conga copper/gold plant, and AA’s $5.5 billion Quellaveco copper plant.

Alfred is experienced in estimating on major mining and mineral processing projects across all key commodities, and is highly skilled and accomplished estimator in their different phases and classes of estimates.

QUANTITY MANAGEMENT

Quantity management is a crucial component estimating and transparency of the engineering design development is paramount. We implement a robust approach to quantity measurement, monitoring and trending by establishing an integrated quantity tracking database that captures quantity development throughout the design and procurement process.

We also can develop construction package Bills of Quantities which support performance management and claims mitigation. This requires clear and comprehensive quantification of all the contract scope, measured in accordance with our Method of Measurement (MOM) and derived from evaluated engineer’s.

  • Mto’s, Lists, 3D Model & Drawings + Vendor Data.

  • We Draft Contract Procedures Which Meet Requirements for Both Progress Measurement and a Method of Measurement of Works That Ensures Fair Payment for Work Performed With Minimizes Opportunistic Claims by Contractors

  • We Don’t Develop Just a Typical Boq in the Way Most Quantity Surveying Firms Would, but Rather a “Smart” Boq, Structured as a Control Tool and Not Just a Price List

  • The Boq Should Form the Basis of Not Just the Progress Payment Certificate (PPC), but in Most Cases It Should Include Labour Hours and Be Structured to Facilitate Activity Scheduling, Progress Monitoring, Visual Inspection of Progress, and De-risking of the Measurement Process
